MT 26:42-“Then he kissed”

A close-up macro photograph of a papercut on a finger, shot on film with a warm, slightly grainy analog aesthetic. Soft natural lighting, shallow depth of field.

Papercut kisses slice my delicate skin
Open I am to a world of vulnerability: featherlight touch, crimson beads on hearts and perspiration of labor unspoken

Let this lifeblood be like honey;
A sustaining sweet to swallow
A sugar to balance the pain of the healthy and piercing ache of longing.

Lips pressed to a lover: drink of the bubbling liquor of courage to speak the truth: words bursting with curved and shining possibilities of wildest hope and shadows of crushed and jagged glass

Breath in like it could be your last, Let every exhale and shuddered breath rest its trembling in the stillness and stone cold sobering thing we call love

A cage around my heart to keep it safe
But nothing can keep you away
A soreness in ribs from laughter and sickness and embrace

Free me with eyes wide open,
A field of green trees set ablaze by sunlight
A gaze exchanged in an honest pupil
One that always follows me
